Write your new story.

  • Deepen your writing practice
  • Learn new techniques and rituals
  • Grow an audience and get published
  • Connect with a global community of poets

A virtual writing club hosted by James McCrae

Being a poet is about more than being a talented writer. It’s a way of living and seeing the world.

This experience is both a poetry class to learn about the history of poetry and different styles and techniques, and also connect with a global community of writers, share your work and receive feedback.

This class is not only for experienced poets, but for anyone looking to deepen their writing practice and find their unique style and voice.

Poetry is therapy.

At a time when the world feels like it's on fire, why take a poetry class?

Creativity is a cathartic purge. What we don't express will be suppressed. Writing and sharing poetry is a form of spiritual and emotional self-care.

Poetry has changed my life in so many ways, helping me to process my thoughts and emotions and connecting me with new friends, an audience on social media, and book deals.

Poets exist in every corner of the world, and we are usually isolated from each other. This class is an opportunity to connect with and learn from a global community of writers.

What People are Saying:

"The Art of Being a Poet was truly mind-blowing.

James has deep knowledge and genuine passion which are apparent in every aspect of his teaching. His presentations were engaging, his insights inspiring, and his commitment to the craft seductive.

What stood out most was his supportive and encouraging style—he made space for each of us, offering thoughtful feedback and personal attention.

I wholeheartedly recommend working with James if you ever get the chance. He’s a gem."

– Gael Johnson

"As a queer person, I’m often worried about entering spaces because I'm scared of rejection.

But this class made me feel comfortable expressing my beliefs, experiences, fears, and joys. The community encouraged me to take creative leaps. I appreciate the way James is willing to offer his gifts to everyone in the circle.

If you're into creativity philosophies like The Artist's Way and The Creative Act, this is a great place to integrate those principles."

– Blairr Ember

"For quite some time, there's been a call in my heart to pursue poetry more intentionally.

I've been writing poetry for almost a decade and was longing for a teacher and community of poets for support and inspiration.

James curated an incredibly inspiring and creative space where I was able to learn more about the art and history of poetry, as well as receive various techniques and prompts to support me on my journey of poetic exploration. This class re-ignited the flame of passionate creation in my heart."
